She's D O W N

Well I had to work away from my side of town today and I couldn't wait to be weighed. Who would of thought????? I headed over to the west side for my meetings and dropped in a WW over there. I was down six lbs. Yep that's right. I was right last week was a problem with the monthly visit. I'm sooo glad I wasn't discouraged and knew that this was part of the process.

Question! It was tough to eat the appropriate amount at the last two meetings I had with my group from work. Last night we were at an Irish Pub all night for the meeting and tonight a Mexican Restaurant. It's odd being away from home. Last night I had a grilled chicken sandwich with no cheese and mustard and horseradish. It was good. Funny however when I figured out the total amount for the night it seemed like too much and I was uncomfortable from eating one chicken breast sandwich and a baked potato. Tonight I had Talapia with broccoli and rice. It was okay. I enjoyed the chips probably too much. I enjoyed the fellowship but it was like 2 hours of sitting there and then all of the sudden I realize I'm full. I found it hard to concentrate on the food and the conversation. I'm thinking just cut it in half right away and work on that only. That's probably the right amount of food. I had saved my points so I was just fine but I still think it was too much food for one meal. Advice???????

Love WW

  1. Hey Dawna,
Great job. Way to hang in there mentally and not get discouraged over the scales last week.

Hmmm,, eating out can be a challenge and when you are really in the groove, eating well and staying within points, it can be hard to eat things that you are not sure of their calorie content. And from what I've found, MOST food has way more points than we can imagine, even the food that would seem low in calories. A great website to check out is: www.dwlz.com

Dottie's Weight Loss Zone, go to :"restaurants." There are hundreds of restaurants on there and it might be a good idea to scroll through and check out some of your favorite foods. Food that you though was a good choice, you may find pretty high in points. If you know where you're going to eat you can check it out before you go. I've even printed it out and taken it with me. PF Changs has great nutritional information on their home website. Changs will do whatever you ask to accomodate your needs. They will even stir-fry in vegetable stock instead of oil.

I know this is pretty boring, but for me, I found the easiest way to eat out was to stick with chicken, grilled, no sauce, a veggie blend, and a baked potato (with butter and sour cream on the side). (Outback has the best chicken...acutally Longhorn has a good one too, with some sort of balsamic glaze on it). Even at that I usually only ate half of the baked potato and sometimes I didn't eat all of the chicken, depending on how big is was. I usually would order a side salad as well and use the "dip the fork in the dressing" technique. Sometimes I even added a little water to the dressing to thin it down. On occassion I would order a very lean steak...filet migeon. Actually, I've heard that a steak, or beef can sometimes kick up your metabolism.

When going to McDonalds, which I think has only been once or twice in 16 weeks, I got a single hamburger...it is lower than the chicken in points. Add a side salad or apples and caramel dip and I was totally satisfied.

I haven't eaten at a Mexican restaurant yet..I'm sort of afraid to :) Over Christmas break I took Lizzie and Laura to Chilis and while I was in the restroom, they ordered chips and salsa. I LOVE Chilis chips and salsa. I was nervous but was pretty proud that I ate maybe 10-12 chips and called it quits. If ever I indulge in chips, I'll just plan to workout at the gym to work them off. (remember 30 minutes of vigerous excercise = 300 calories).

You should enjoy your time out at a restaurant, but I know how you feel about worrying so much about it you can't enjoy it. Try not to stress, but make informed, wise choices. If it seems a little on the heavy side, work out a little more or stay within the limits the next day, and maybe even a little under. You're doing fine. The fact that you are worried about it tells me you are SERIOUS!!! Good for you! Isn't it such a good feeling to be in control?

    We'll talk later.
